Happy Birthday Kolton . . . July 2014!

Happy ('slightly' belated) Birthday Kolton!

Can’t miss this important milestone!  Although I haven’t been blogging online, I’ve still had my little man’s birthday letting mulling around in my mind and so we’ll start here and then catch up on the rest blog later J

My dear sweet Kolton,

There really are no adequate words to describe the total and complete joy you have brought to our lives in the 3 short years you have been with us.  You are absolutely bursting with happiness and just a beautiful passion for life.  It starts when you bound out of bed with a huge smile and I hear little footprints running over to me . . . you proceed to leap into my arms (I have to be ready for you or I’ll be toppled over!) and start off my day with the best snuggles, hugs and kisses . . . then you excitedly run off to find Daddy so that you can ‘MAKE MOMMY COFFEE” – trust me the volume at which you say this fully justifies the capitals!! ;-)  No matter what side of the bed I wake up on, you always get my day off to a great, smiling start!

You keep this energy up all. day. long!!!  While you might be one of the happiest kids around, you certainly aren’t the quietest!!  You are often bursting with something and I think it just comes shouting out before you can contain yourselfJ  Naps are mostly a thing of the past for you which we’re ok with most of the time, fortunately when we know it’s going to be a late night we can talk you into a nap.  You are definitely a play hard, sleep hard kiddo so when it does come time to crash you usually go down without much battle.

You are LOVING your 2nd year at school – not a single day have you cried when I brought you there and your teachers all have a big smile when they tell me of your adventures for the day!  I love coming to pick you up as you coming just flying at me bursting again with all your adventures from your day.  You literally jump up and down squealing most days when I come to collect youJ  By all accounts at school you are extremely well behaved (which I have to be honest, with all your extra energy, I had my worries)!  They do say that you are the go-to person if any recounting of events is required!  You have no hesitation to talk with anyone that will listen and will happily re-tell any and all events when asked.  You also are quite happy to speak up in a large group of kids even older than you, showing a confident and bold streakJ

Along with that high energy personality of yours comes a passion for your big sister!  While you two certainly have your ‘moments’ that test each other (and Mommy!), for the most part you both generally play really well together.  It has primiarly been since you’ve turned 3 and figured out the imaginary play, that you and Kailie have really engaged each other in each other’s imaginary worlds.  You like to play the puppy or kitty and Kailie will happily feed, pet, water, play with her puppy/kitty.  Then Kailie likes to play Mommy and Baby and you most happily play the part of Baby . . . which does get a bit confusing when I hear you crying out for Mommy only for me to be quickly shushed out of the room as the ‘wrong Mommy’!!

Some other little tidbits:
-       - You take cuddling to a new level – it’s more like burrowing when you want to cuddle in.  Always amazes me how one little person like yourself can leave me clinging to an inch of my bed hoping I won’t fall off (again)!
-      -  You are already showing a very natural ability in sports; your hand eye coordination is amazing (hockey, tennis, baseball, golf etc) and your energy levels keep you moving so quick (gymnastics, biking etc).  I worry it’s your lack of fear that really makes you excel!  I can’t wait to see where your love of sport takes you as you continue to grow.
-       - We could listen to you talk all.day.long!  You compete with your big sister for talk time and the cutest things come out of your mouth.  You just recently have given up “Kay-Kee” much to our disappointment but many cute words and pronunciations along with the cutest hand motions have replaced thisJ
-       - You keep everyone on track when needed – especially when it comes to seatbelts and praying!!  You are the first one to insist on a ‘seatbelt check’ and you are also the first one to pray at mealtimes and then make everyone have their turn at a prayer tooJ
-       - You want to do everything Kailie does and you always have your own special way of accomplishing this, reading at bedtime where you interpret the pictures as you ‘read’; writing letters to your Aunties & Uncles and asking us how to spell their names as you scribble down shapes; singing with Kailie just one word behind her in a really bad form of a round (ps – we’re pretty sure you and Papa have the same ear for tone)!; even participating in Kailie’s ballet shows, pretty dresses and all!!!! ;-)

You are just so sweet, funny, adorable, full of life and just a total joy to spend time with.  It’s just impossible for anyone not to smile when you are around and I hope this beautiful zest for life you have stays with you as you continue to grow up into the wonderful little boy you are becoming!

The only downside of seeing you turn 3 was Mommy & Daddy feeling like our house is missing babies now.  While this does give the silver lining of a much more rested household we have been so blessed with some amazing years of beautiful babies.  While this may be in our past now I can already see that we are going to have many more blessed years of little children growing up much too quicklyJ

We love you more than any words could adequately express my sweet boy.  Because of you my heart is overflowing and we all spend a lot of time smiling and laughing.  Thank you for being the bright bold spark in our family!

Ok - I know I am in soooooo much trouble from Daddy for this pic - but this is what happens when you spend all summer with your sisters and girl cousins!!!!  Pretty sure he will grow out if it . . . one day!! ;-)

Grammie Kim

April 13, 1957 - May 20, 2014

One of the biggest fans of my blog was always Grammie Kim – it’s for this reason that I have had to take a break from K&K’s blog but also for this reason that I need to get back to it.

While my relationship was not always easy with Mom – she ALWAYS sparkled whenever the kids were around.  They fondly remember her as so much fun and the undivided attention she gave them when they were with her was remarkable.

Kailie & Kolton – Grammie Kim loved you deeply and always appreciated the love you so willingly gave her in return.

Grammie Kim loved nothing more than retelling many many many stories of our childhood and she always told me that my ongoing blog for my kids would be a great gift for them one day.  So Mom – for you, my kids and the rest of anyone else that wants to keep coming along this amazing journey we have been blessed with – I promise to get back on track and keep going.

We just can't wait for that perfect heavenly day to be reunited.  xoxo J3Ks

Star Of The Week!!

Here is my TDL of blogs to be done in the foreseeable future (that's as firm of a time commitment as I can make)!!

Kailie & Mommy's trip to Boston . . . all the way back in January, I know I'm super late!
Trip to Orlando and all kinds of cousin fun . . . and my Half Ironman :)
Easter - hat parade, egg hunts, kite flying
Mother's Day
Winnipeg trip and more cousin fun

So yes I'm so far behind - but this past week just CANNOT go unmentioned so I will start with this then back up.  Oh and just to give fair warning - this is another very proud Mommy posting but some things just can't be helped ;-)

Each class at Kailie's school takes a turn with presenting a show at their weekly school assembly and the parents of the featured class are invited to come and watch.  We have eagerly been anticipating this, practicing lines, singing songs etc.  Kailie's class ('1B') was the last to go so I was just as excited as her when the day finally came that we could come to her school assembly.

1B did AMAZING!!  They did this fantastic show that really showcased all the Bermuda hot spots.  Kailie said her lines with like a pro, some of which included how we can learn about the history of Bermuda on the mural at the Commissioner's House in Dockyard - these were not easy lines for her but she had them mastered them and delivered them perfectly!!  After her class collectively finished presenting their tour of the island, they followed up with a fun dance to Pharrell Williams "Happy" as the Bermuda video rendition played for us in the background.  Most Mom's (including this Mom) were all a bit teary as we watched it all unfold:)  It was absolutely excellent.

After this the school assembly proceeded as per usual . . . celebrating birthdays, recognition of various accomplishments etc etc.  Then the principal announced the "Star Of The Week" from each class and KAILIE was it for 1B!!!!  I was so excited that we got to be there for this I nearly jumped right out of my chair and there 'may' have been some excessively loud cheering . . . it all happened before Joel could stop me ;-)  It was very special for us and I know it was special for her to have us there for that!  Kailie is only the 2nd child in her class to win this award for the 2nd time . . . . and there's more! Earlier that week the kids have started taking turns having one night 'sleep-overs' with their class mascot "Q-Bear", apparently Q-Bear watches to see who is on their best behavior and he picks who he goes home with.  Kailie with the very first person in her class to be picked (it's kinda like having a rock-star stay at your house in her world)!  Then to top it all off - just within their own classroom Kailie's teacher runs a system of points (DoJo points if you ever hear Kailie talk about it) and Kailie was tied with another classmate with to have the most DoJo points this week so they got to pick a prize from the teachers treasure chest.  It was a BIG week around here!!!

We are just bursting with pride over all of this.  I'm so very proud of the sweet girl that she is and how well she clearly handles herself outside of our home.  I hope these successes will continue to encourage her to never change the lovely character she has, and is continuing to grow into.

On a side-bar while we are so pleased at how well things at school are going for her . . . . we are fairly convinced that every ounce of energy she has is being expended at school and her good behavior is somewhat 'used up' by the end of the day!!!  The poor kid is so exhausted by the end of the day and then with some after school activities thrown in some days she sleeps an enormous amount!  It makes for some tricky evenings around here and when Kailie and Kolton get on a grumpy collision course, it's just not pretty!!  We thoroughly enjoy the weekends when we get a more rested big sister to play with :)

Kailie-Bear one day when you look back at this I want you to know that we are always so proud of you and we know what an incredible sweet girl you are . . . but this week we were so excited for you to be recognized for what we already knew!

Here are a few pic's especially for Kailie.

Class "1B" just after their "Bermuda Is Awesome" presentation.
Kailie being presented with her *Star Of The Week* award along with the other *stars* from the other classes.  Then the whole school sang a sweet little 'star of the week' song to them - Kailie just beamed the entire time!
A VERY happy girl!
Kolton getting in on a bit of the stage fun at the end:)
QBear's sleepover was on a day Kailie had swimming lessons so he of course had a front row seat to watch.
No matter how much 'stardom' QBear brings - he still doesn't replace Lamby but he did get in on the bedtime cuddles all the same:)

Christmas 2014

The great thing about being so far behind in my blogs is that it's March and I'm still re-living Christmas!!  So many great memories made again this Christmas!  Having young kids especially makes every Christmas very special and so different:)  This year we made the trip to Alberta where we enjoyed some wonderful family time and remembered what winter was all about!!

So many pictures yet they only just scrape the surface of all the fun we had - some of the most fun moments the camera never made an appearance, either that or it was too cold to take my hands out to take the pictures ;-)  There is something just so special about Christmas that I just can't get enough of, yes it's over commercialized and can get much too crazy . . . but when you strip all that away it is a beautiful time of year to be with family - which always makes me realize just how incredible richly blessed we are:)

I hope yours was as wonderful as ours!!  xx

I'm so lucky to be Mommy in this family!!
Kailie LOVES arts and crafts and at Christmas she sure had her fill!

Adventures Of MIA (or ZOE - depending on the day!!!) . . . our elf on the shelf had lots of fun hanging out with Ralphie The Reindeer (see last years Christmas post for more of Ralphie's adventures)!
Swinging from the ceiling fan - you have to look pretty close to spot her here!

While Christmas was well underway - Mommy slipped away for a girls weekend where my friend Jenn and I enjoyed a weekend of racing and shopping!  It was my first Olypmic Triathlon and it was so much fun!!  We had a really great weekend and Key West was absolutely beautiful.  We are already talking about how we might be able to fit it into our schedule this year:)

First up was the race . . . . gorgeous weather, really great people and FLAT FLAT FLAT - just perfect conditions, verging on a bit too hot for the run but we weren't complaining:)
Then it was time to start relaxing and enjoying KW:)
A little post-race toast at Cheesecake Cafe:)
A "little" retail therapy too!!  I think we got as much of a workout walking the malls as we did on our race . . . or maybe even more!!  We had a very limited amount of time to get all our Christmas shopping done - but we were up to the challenge!
While I was gone - Super Daddy looked after K&K, including a trip to ER due to an eye infection.  Aside from this little hiccup Daddy and the kids had what sounded like a lot of fun on their weekend:)
Kolton carrying on a Robertson Christmas tradition!! ;-)

LOVE LOVE LOVE! xx

Kailie's Christmas Concert at Saltus - hard to see her but she's the Snow Princess in the blue off to the right.  Kailie's Christmas concert was all about how Jack Frost had not sent snow for Christmas so everyone (the Snow Fairies, the Reindeer, the Elves etc) were baking in the sun when it should have been winter.  While it was a lovely little production and I was very proud of Kailie . . . I pretty much sat in my seat steaming and grumbling the whole time!!  To me a kids school Christmas play should be a little less Santa centered and a lot more Jesus centered!!  Anyway - we knew this when we sent her to Saltus so I just had to put a smile on my face and know that she was smart enough to know what Christmas was really about, despite what her school Christmas play was about.
Kolton's 1st Christmas Concert!  My shy little boy wasn't too thrilled with being on stage - he was quite happy when it was all done:)  I suspect next year could be a bit different . . . !!
Mommy & Daddy headed to Joel's work Christmas part where the theme was 1920's - it was really fantastic!
Although this had not so much to do with Christmas - it was Kolton's first bus ride that we happened to take in December - you can tell by the look on his face  how he felt about it ;-)
Finally - time to head to Grama & Papa's!!!
And this is what we looked like when we got there!!  The kids quickly got a quick lesson in what cold really was!

First stop in our Christmas Holiday was a few days in our favorite spot - Canmore!!  Doesn't matter what time of year we just love it here and of course there is the added bonus of getting some quality time with the Mahon Family!
Treat time in Banff:)
Kolton spent so much time on this little slide at our hotel - it was just perfect for him!
Uncle Stefan putting the littles through a workout!!  This quickly changed to the littles sitting on Uncle Stefan while he did push-ups for all of them ;-) !

After a fantastic time in Canmore we packed up the crew, picked up Gram from the airport and headed to Grama & Papa's.  After spending all summer with G&P Kailie was especially excited to get there, she had been talking about going to G&P for MONTHS and we were finally on our way!

So much cousin fun!
One of the first nights we were at Grama & Papa's we packed up the whole crew and took some of Grama's beautiful gifts and went caroling to the neighbors:)  Although it was a chilly night we received a very warm reception for their lovely neighbors!  I think Dad has forgotten the speed that a group has to move in when you have kiddos ages 2, 4, and 5 along . . . lets just say that Dad thought we should have been able to see many more neighbors in a much shorter amount of time!!

She blends right into the run but Chloe was posing in front of the barrage of gifts that made their way out from under the tree.  We were all getting worried that the living room was going to be completely overtaken . . . . we are all SO spoiled and SO incredibly blessed to be able to celebrate and share these many gifts with each other.

LOVED watching them open pressies together:)

Banz & Kolton being tunnels for the train!

Asia & Kailie working on crafts from G&P!!

Kolton seems to think that Grama & Papa's is a clothing-free zone - no matter what the season!!

Yes this is my boy!!  Color doesn't really matter when your warm - or at least that's what I told him!  He can take it up with me in years to come ;-)  In addition to driveway hockey, there was lots of sliding and even some play on the swings . . . not as much outdoor play as we would have liked but when the temps went up just a bit we did try to get out when we could . . . the kids (and Papa!) were much braver than Mommy and the rest of the Aunts!

Chase is just adored as the oldest cousin:)

Always a highlight of being at home is time spent with GG!  She spent a few days with us at G&P and we had some time to go and visit her after too - we just all love and adore her so much.

Despite the cold I still did my best to keep some level of training going over Christmas . . . let me tell you, in a quiet little country town that is covered in feet of snow and freezing cold you get a 'few' interesting looks from the residents as you go jogging by!!
Kailie & Maya loving their matching outfits and Kolton didn't want to be left out of course!
Time to head home to Bermuda . . . . and although warmer temperatures awaited us, it is still always hard to say good-bye.

After a long Christmas break from his crib it was time for Kolton to graduate to a big boy bed . . . this was his first time in his Thomas Bed - the look on his face says it all - he just LOVED it!

So many wonderful memories from this Christmas and really just a few pics to show for it.  Having a 2 year old and a 5 year old makes for some wonderful memories and when shared with family it really doesn't get any better!!  Thanks all for sharing your Christmas with us!  xx
