Quarter 1.2013 at the Matthews!

Here I am again playing catch up - I feel like we just cleaned up the Christmas wrap and here we are now putting away Easter Eggs . . . and soooooo much in between!  As life continues with these two wonderful crazy kids of ours we often find it hard to keep up with each day, but as each of these busy days, weeks, months pass us by I can't help but look back to some of the moments where I wish I could just stop time.  It's been a really fun 3 months with lots to tell but I'm going to let you follow along with the pictures as I tell my stories:)  This is a bunch of blogs all wrapped into one, so you might want to break it up into a few reading sessions ;-)

For the sake of (my!) time these are not really in chronological order - to be honest it's a bit of a blur so I'd probably get it wrong anyway!

Just some fun and crazy moments at home:)
Kailie's crafts!

The Littlest (and possibly Happiest) Green Bay Fan!
Matching PJ's for Kailie's ever-faithful Lamby!

Kailie & her BFF's at school - Kannon & Imani.  They were waiting to put on their 3 Little Pig's Play for Grandparents Day - Kailie was the Mommy Pig and did an amazing job!  We can't wait to see her in action again at the year-end play.
The Post-Christmas Ginger Bread House!  Daddy had to step in for Papa this year as it just didn't get done over Christmas - I think they did a fabulous job and it was nice to have the holiday decorations carry over in January (and February)!!
Every week for school Kailie has to do some kind of collage, usually focusing on a letter.  This used to be SO much work for us, however Kailie has become so interested in her arts and crafts she just loves doing these collages now and she pretty much runs the show herself!  This week was a "T" collage and I think she did a fantastic job (with a few little spelling tips from Mom & Dad)!

Kailie's 1st trip to the Dentist (March 19) - she just loved every moment and was given a glowing report which was a pleasant surprise given Mommy & Daddy both has issues with our teeth growing up - here's hoping it continues:)
My 35th spent being spoiled by my amazing family:)

These next few pictures I just love because it's one of those magical times when my babes are playing together so nicely!  Largely to Kailie's credit, K&K actually do get along pretty good but what is most heart-warming is when they get their little games going together and they are both just all giggles - the bathtub is very often when this happens as they both LOVE playing in the water:)

As Kailie is getting older, we are having a lot of fun introducing her into a few new sports and while some get the thumbs down (we finally figured out the best way to end the weekly gymnastic-meltdowns was to just end the weekly gymnastics!) we've had some better luck with others!  Both Joel and I are fortunate enough to do a lot of running races here and Kailie has often come to watch or Joel will push her along in the stroller (which Kailie just loves) so when the opportunity came along for Kailie to run in a couple of her very own races she was crazy excited about it!  In addition to this there have been some kids biking events that Kailie has participated in and it's really given her a taste of how much she likes to bike ride:)

Kailie taking on the obstacle course for the bikes.  Once she got off the strider and onto her little pink bike she enjoyed this a lot more.
Every kid gets a medal, which is good for our little Kailie as she wasn't exactly the first to cross the finish line ;-) !
Kailie's very first running race!  400 Meters Dash At Dark - it was FREEZING cold and super windy but that didn't put her off at all (note the shorts and running shirt she insisted on wearing)!  At one point Daddy tried to run alongside for a moment and Kailie went swerving off the track to lecture him that this was HER race and he was only to be watching NOT running!!  It was very cute to watch and despite finishing just before the 'sweeper' I just could not have been more proud of her and of how much fun she was having!
Her finish pose after I finally convinced her into some warm clothes :)
The next race she did was a much nicer day at one of the parks and this time she finished ahead of a couple of kids which she was quite quick to point out!
Note the same running gear in both races, Kailie has been very specific about what her running clothes are!
This was a family race where Mommy pushed Kolton and Daddy pushed Kailie - by the time Kolton and I and finally arrived at the finish Kailie was so hopped up on all the post-race treats she had to go for her own run back to the house!!

One of the major highlights over the last few months was having the Mahon's here in Bermuda.  Kailie & Asia were crazy cute together and loved spending time playing a whole host of different creative games.  Kolton however wasn't as interested in 'cousin-harmony' and he decided to throw his weight around when it came to little Banz.  It seemed if the kids were very well occupied there was peace but if given a quite moment Kolton would quickly resort to biting, pushing, head-butting etc.  Poor little Banz quickly picked up a mantra of "No Bishing" but unfortunately she just couldn't run fast enough and often needed a bit of parent interference:)  We are hoping things will be better next time around!  Aside from that we really had a lot of fun and the Mahon's were super helpful in so many ways as they helped us get through March without a Nanny.  Already looking forward to the next visit:)

So Much Fun these two cuties had!

Story Time!

We were really lucky to have Kayt & Stefan agree to help us host a dinner party for some friends while they were here.  It was by far the nicest and most interesting food that has ever been served from our place (compliments of Chef Stefan)!  It was really a fantastic night and it was a lot of fun for us to be able to show off just how talented and awesome Stefan & Kayt were together.  Our friends are all still talking about it:)

The Flambéing was very exciting for everyone!!  Good thing our landlords weren't in attendance!

It wasn't all bad with these two - the bathtub was always a place where they could be friends!

Asia's "Fort Bed"!

Some fun at the pool on one of the few fair-weather days we had together:)
The girls were fantastic little fishies!

High-5 Uncle Stefan!

One of the many pictures Uncle Stefan & Aunty Kayt sent to us while we were at work - our little Rambo!
We had a 4 1/2 Birthday Party for the Big Girls!
Jello Cake with Mickey Mouse Frosting!

Right after the Mahon's left it was time to start with all the Easter Celebrations.  First up was the annual Easter Hat Competition and Parade at Aeries!!  Kailie's entry won "Most Flowers" and "Best Hat Made By Child" (although given Mommy's contributions to this hat this award may have to be returned)!!  As always it was a lot of fun and this year after the parade was over Kailie's entire school came to our place for an Easter Egg Hunt and a Hot Dog Lunch.  We were really excited to have the whole crew over for one great big play-date!

Kailie getting her awards from Mrs Caesar:)

The parade in full swing!
The big kids at our house patiently awaiting their turn to search for their turn to be turned loose for the egg hunt!
Kolton got in on all the fun too:)
Crazy Fun!
Lunch Time!

One of the less fun moments in February was Kailie having to undergo surgery AGAIN for her adenoids and tonsils as well this time.  Given that last time went as well as it did she was actually looking forward to her hospital stay, she was especially about the crib-type of bed she was going to get to stay in!  After surgery she certainly wasn't quite as happy about the whole thing given that she had a pretty sore throat that she wasn't expecting but overall she was a real trooper through the whole thing.  She really showed just how brave and tough my little Princess is and we couldn't have been more proud.

Pre-surgery smiles!
Just waking up from surgery.

Back to some more fun!  After Kailie had bounced back from her surgery we decided to take an extended long weekend and headed North to Niagara Falls for a weekend with the kids.  Our hotel was connected to a great indoor water-park and the plan was to spend most of our time there.  Kailie was all on-board for this and loved the slides and wave pool, Mommy and Daddy were always arguing over who Kailie would take on the big slides!  Kolton however wasn't as keen - there was a lot of noise with all the kids and splash areas and this really seemed to unsettle Kolton and he just wasn't having a great time, which is very unusual for him and water.  Anyway we still spent some great time there with Kailie but we had to revise our plans a little bit to accommodate the little guy too:)  No pic's of the water-park unfortunately but one place we all really had a great time was at the Butterfly Conservatory and lots of pic's to show for that!

Kailie was so excited about seeing the snow and insisted on touching it whenever she could.  We weren't quite as excited as with snow comes cold but it was fun to see her reaction to it:)
Kailie and Daddy got to get in some Daddy-Daughter time bowling!
Butterfly Catching!

Kolton loved the butterlies too but had a little bit of a harder time actually being still long enough to catch one:)

One of the really fun little areas at our hotel - unfortunately we found this on our last day (although there is still some debate that Joel may have known about this whole time)!!  It was just a small play area for the little ones and K&K loved it.
A chilly trip on the Farris Wheel Gondola - a nice way to see the Falls once we were actually inside our car:)
Monkeying around at the hotel:)
This might have been Kolton's favorite game of the whole trip - he'd hop into the recycling bucket and one of us would push him around the room . . . next time we should probably just save some air fair and get a recycling bin!!

Finally onto Easter Weekend - it was a fantastic weekend full of kite flying, picnics, food and friends - just exactly how an Easter Weekend should be spent!

It was a very breezy day so the kites were up at Botanical Gardens - our biggest problem was keeping the kites attached to the string as the wind would just rip them right off when they got high enough!
Fish cakes and Hot Cross Buns:)
Easter Morning Egg Hunt - Kailie loved it and Kolton just did his best to keep up.  In great Big Sister style Kailie would let Kolton help himself to a few of her eggs so he didn't feel left out:)
Lots of Eggs:)
My two favorite boys getting in some Easter Cuddles:)
Kailie's nursery she set up all on her own after receiving some additions to it from the Easter Bunny!  I'm pretty sure Lamby & Tigger's nursery is nicer than K&K's ever were!
Fun family time at the park:)
